About
My name is Terry Truchan
I started in the fire service in 2000 in Northern Alberta and quickly earned my NFPA 1001 and EMR Certification. I worked my way up to Captain and then also worked as a Casual EMR with Alberta Health Services working on the Ambulance. In 2004 I landed a career Captain position with Kananaskis Emergency Services where I served as Operations Captain for 3 years and then Training Captain for 4 years.

In 2012 I started Heads Up Safety Services International and started teaching Red Cross First Aid to clients being able to hand down my real life experiences and knowledge to clients, which had a distinct advantage over other instructors.

In 2014 I accepted a Fire Chief position with another composite fire department. Within 14 months, the Charlie Lake Fire Department was the largest NFPA 1001 certified fire department in Northern BC.
I now operate Heads Up Safety Services full-time, doing safety consultant work, and teaching First Aid/CPR/AED, Fire Extinguisher Training, Wildland Firefighting, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, and NFPA 1001 Firefighter Training.

"Terry was the best, most thorough instructor I've ever had for this course."
"Instructor is great. I've taken this course lots of times from other companies. This was the best!"
"Terry is one of the best instructors I have had. Uses his experiences as a first responder to get real life situations across to students in a raw manner that will stick with me. I learned a few new things as well."
